Manutara - 1985 Moody 419 Sloop (see photo below)

Manutara is a Moody 419 Class auxiliary cruising sloop. A class onto its own, the Moody boats are renowned for their solid ocean-worthy construction (Manutara is built to and certified by LLoyds of London), their sleek lines, easy and smooth sailing ability, and rich interiors. It is rare today to find a new boat with brass (not plastic) through hulls, decks that you can comfortably walk on without falling overboard, and a host of other features that give you both peace of mind and comfort at sea.

Sadly, we must offer her for sale as our plans to cruise have changed. While we have owned her, we have attended to almost every possible renovation, upgrade and replacement. It is important to note that the quality of workmanship and materials used on this vessel are all marine grade and the best you can find. There isn't a bolt that isn't marine grade stainless, a glue used that can't handle salt air or any wood that came from the local hardware store. Built in 1985, she truly rivals boats much newer.

One of the best features on this vessel is her keel and centreboard. With a 4 foot draft (centreboard up) she can go pretty much anywhere. When in heavy seas, the board down provides an additional 3 plus feet of stability.

A GREAT LIVEABOARD VESSEL:

Located in fresh water in Toronto, she served us well as a year round liveaboard vessel. She has an enormous amount of storage capacity and has many amenities that make life on board comfortable.

CONSTRUCTION:

She has a fiberglass hull and fiberglass cored deck, joined to the hull on a reverse flange at the gunwale and through bolted with stainless bolts on 6” centers through an HD aluminum toe rail. The keel is externally bolted cast iron with a flange set in a recess in the hull and with a pocket for the electric / hydraulic-operated centerboard w/manual over-ride. The mast is deck-stepped on the cabin top and is supported below by a 3 ½” pipe stanchion, set on the keel. Chain plates are flat bar, through bolted to the main bulkhead and to secondary brackets, fiber glassed to the hull. The hull is fitted with fiberglass channel stringers and floors fully fiberglass bonded to the hull. All paneling and trim below decks is teak and the cabin sole is teak and holly.

PEDIGREE:

  • Built under LR Certification - HCC per Lloyds Register of Shipping
  • Mounted CertificationPlate: Cert # Ply 580134
  • Built at the Lloyds approved factories of Marine Projects, London, England.
  • Design by Bill Dixon.

Moody boats are sought after and recognized for their world reknowned pedigree. A pedrigree that is enjoyed by only a handful of international boat builders. If you have your sights set on a Hinckley, Swan or Oyster, but they are a bit of your reach, this is the boat to buy.
